Are the Canary Islands Still a Top Winter Holiday Destination?

Many people are looking to book winter breaks this year as, due to the recession; they have missed out on their usual summer holiday. One of the age old popular winter destinations has to be the Canary Islands. This Spanish territory is located just of the west coast of Africa and is of volcanic origin. Its east Atlantic location ensures the summers are hot and the winters are mild and inviting.

The islands comprise of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, La Gomera, La Palma, and the lesser known El Hierro, and each one has their own individual personality. From giant sand dunes and lush pine forests to sub-tropical flora, mountain peaks, endless beaches and cosy coves.

Tenerife and Gran Canaria are the most popular of the Canaries and offer varied holidays for all ages, there’s something for the older generation, for families and the young party goers alike.

Lanzarote is the next favourite and has beautiful golden or white sands; Papagayo beach on its southern tip is probably the most beautiful and benefits from some of the best weather. Holidaymakers looking for cheap holidays to the Canary Islands over the winter months often choose Lanzarote due to its low annual rainfall.

Fuerteventura picks up the trade winds and warm Sahara breeze making it extremely popular with water sports enthusiasts, in particular wind surfers. It has some of the largest sand dunes you are ever likely to see and also some of the most beautiful.

La Gomera is one of the smaller lesser known of the islands and is often only visited by day trippers on boat excursions from Tenerife. The island is lush and green and its highest peak is often shrouded in cloud, making conditions perfect for growing vegetation. It is especially favoured by keen walkers who enjoy the tranquillity, stunning scenery and warm hospitality.

La Palma is the furthest north west of the islands and also the fifth largest. It is again predominately a walking destination as it is a mass of vibrant colour. The lively flora and fauna stand out against the greenery of the forests and the bright blue sea offsets the dark volcanic sands to perfection.

Finally, the most south westerly island is El Hierro, well off the beaten track and visited by only a handful of walkers every year.

Cheap holidays to the Canary Islands will always be popular with British holidaymakers, no matter how many new destinations spring up to tempt them away.

Canary Wharf – A Multi-Purpose Business Venue

Primarily a business related venue, Canary Wharf goes beyond this goal by offering a host of other attractions. A vibrant locale in London, this destination offers all who visit a host of dining, entertainment and shopping options in addition to a variety of art programmes and events that further add to its appeal.

As its name implies Canary Wharf is located next to a body of water which provides a pleasing aesthetic aspect to the entire area. The locale is very developed and is dominated mostly by imposingly tall structures that serve as office space which relates to the wharf’s main use. Canary Wharf has the distinction of housing three of the tallest buildings in the United Kingdom which are 8 Canada Square, One Canada Square and Citigroup Centre.

The primary purpose of Canary Wharf is to provide a pleasant working environment for those working in the area. It is for this reason that there are several open spaces including parks, promenades and squares that are ideal for taking a break and giving a liberating sense of openness. This aspect is equally enjoyed by travellers as well who visit the wharf for its many other offerings.

Keeping the business aspect aside there is much on offer at Canary Wharf for both regular and transient visitors. The entire area is peppered with a wide array of restaurants, shops, service providers and more that present a comprehensive offering of items.

But beyond the various retail outlets that are located here Canary Wharf is also the site of numerous events that take place during the year that add further appeal to this prominent destination. This includes an offering of film seasons, music concerts, dance performances, outdoor festivals and much more. The diversity is quite pronounced with over 100 such events taking place each year.

With a vast choice of hotels in London travellers will have quite the task in searching for a suitable option. For those wanting to avoid the hassle of finding a hotel on site, LondonHotelsEye.com presents an online booking site with a comprehensive selection of London hotels that can be reserved through a secure system.
